Metro Incident & Karmic Principle
Today, while going to office, I saw a couple (a heterosexual
one) seated in crowded metro train. The girl was feed wafers to the boy by her
own hands and no one seemed to be taking note of this. She was occasionally touching
the cheeks of the boy and putting her
head on his left shoulder. Everyone in that crowded metro compartment was calm,
as if nothing worth noticing was happening. It reminded me of those two
occasions where two similar incidents invited more than a normal attention of
people. One incident occurred 2 years ago when one of my colleague stared a gay
couple who was waiting for the metro train at the platform and one of them was
feeding chocolates to the other (Let me also mention that the boys were cute
and were behaving very decently). The way he was staring them was so full of
disgust and unbecoming of a ‘normal’ person that I had to intervene. In the second incident a gay couple was
travelling in a metro train which was crowded,
and one of the guy put his head on the shoulder of the other while
standing face to face. It also gave raise to my curious eyebrows.
Noticing such a clear-cut difference between the reactions of
people I had to ask God, “Why do similar actions performed with similar intent
with a similar state of mind invite different reaction?” In one case people
consider you ‘normal’ and in other they deem you ‘anomalous’. Why two different
outcome of two similar actions? Where is the principle of “Karma” as described
by Lord Himself in Bhagwad Gita?
A subsequent deliberation in my mind gave me the following
conclusion:
Perhaps, it is our Karma as a gay to love our partner as much
normally as a heterosexual person would have loved his/her partner; and getting
same amount of love is the outcome of that Karma which is indeed no less than
what a heterosexual person gets. As far as hatred, shock, prejudice, disgust is concerned, it is the
Karma of those who do it. They shall get their outcome accordingly. Surely, God
has not discriminated against gays in His principle of Karma. Indeed we face
some difficulties in our lives as a gay, but the satisfaction we get when we
are with our better-halves is exactly the same. Yes, those who become obstacle
between two persons in love, irrespective of gay or straight, must have similar
Karmic outcome.

Modern Day Dr. Money
Dr. John Money |
The boy later committed suicide |
Today I watched a BBC Documentary
about a boy whose penis got burnt in an accident when he was a little baby.
Then he was castrated and was brought up like a girl on the advice of a psychologist
Dr. John Money who had a so called theory of “Nurture verse Nature”. According to him a boy could become a girl if
brought up like one and vice-versa. To
prove his theory he found a perfect subject in this poor child. But he failed
despite his best efforts and ultimately the ‘girl’ had to be brought up like a
boy. (But this real life story took a very tragic turn later on which claimed
two lives).
Baba Ramdev : A modern day quack (at least for gays!) |
This Documentary was about the time
of 1960s when plastic surgery was not as advanced. But we too have a modern day
Dr. Money in India! Yes you got me right. BABA RAMDEV! He too thinks that your
sexual preferences can be altered through a “proper treatment”! Nature is
secondary according to this quack. I just wish that no parent in India is
forced by circumstances to take his help. I wish if each parent could watch
this Documentary, where it comes out clearly that the sexual preference with
which you are born cannot be altered. I wish if there were a law in this
country where such quacks can be prosecuted even for making such absurd claims!
I wish many other things… But …!!!
P.S.
At least Dr. Money had some recognised degree
and was working on a subject which was not completely known at that time. But
this Baba has no such qualification per se and has himself put a cap on his
knowledge by being a fundamentalist (I would not say a Hindu fundamentalist
because his opinion on this subject is more similar to the Christian and
Islamic teachings).
