According to Hinduism, Atma changes different bodies from time to time as per the 'karmas'. Even while leaving a physical body, Atma remains in a meta-physical body (called सूक्ष्म शरीर) composed of among other things -mind (मन) and tendencies / inclinations (संस्कार is the word for it in Hindi) acquired from past births.

It goes to a new body according to 'karmas' but takes with it this meta-physical body and consequently the mind and the inclinations.

If it is so... then I see no reason why few so called religious pundits can't digest the fact that a man can well be in love with another man! Body acquired has nothing to do with the tendencies / attachments acquired from past innumerable births (both as male and as a female).

Due this this reason (among many others), no discrimination is found in Hinduism based upon sexuality of a person. What has important for liberation of a soul (be it in a male or female body... as a gay or heterosexual person) is - detachment from world and attachment to Almighty. Only difference is that a homosexual person has attachment in a person of same sex (among other worldly attachments) and a heterosexual person has attachment in a person of another sex!

दोस्ती या दोस्ताना?

पता नहीं कितने लोगों को मेरी तरह लगता है पर मैं जब भी 1964 में बनी फिल्म दोस्ती देखता हूँ, तो मुझे यह दोस्ती कम और “दोस्ताना” ज्यादा लगती है. पूरी फिल्म में दो दोस्तों के बीच का प्यार बिल्कुल भी ढका-छुपा के नहीं दिखाया गया. चाहें वह अगल-बगल में दोनों का सोना हो... या फिर एक का अपनी पढाई के लिए अलग होने पर दूसरे का उदास हो जाना. अगर और अधिक गौर से देखा जाए... तो फिल्म के गाने भी दोनों के बीच के प्यार की ओर इशारा करते नज़र आतें है... जैसे कि “मेरा तो जो भी क़दम है वो तेरी राह में हैं” (कृपया पूरा गाना सुने... मेरे तो पसंदीदा गानों में से एक है!) इसी गाने के बोल “जुदा तो होते है वो, खोट जिनकी चाह में हैं” मेरे मन को बहुत भाते है. इसी तरह एक अन्य गाने के बोल गे लोगों को कमतर समझने वाले लोगों को नसीहत देते जान पड़ते है – “एक इंसान हूँ मैं... तुम्हारी तरह”. इसी गाने में संसार की विविधता को बताते हुए कहा गया है – “इस अनोखे जगत की मैं तकदीर हूँ”.  (साथ ही इस गाने में गेस और बाकी लोगों में मनुष्य होने के कारण समानता दर्शाने वाले अन्य कई बोल है... इसे भी पूरा सुने)

अगर ऐसी ही फिल्म आज बनती तो लोगों की प्रतिक्रिया क्या होती? मेरे मत में तो एक ऐसी ही फिल्म आज बननी ही चाहिए. चाहें दोस्ती फिल्म के बनाने वालों की मंशा ऐसी न रही हो... पर मुझ जैसे एक गे को तो यह फिल्म इसी भाव से देखना पसंद है. निर्माता, निर्देशक और गीतकार का हार्दिक धन्यवाद.

On the occasion of Maha Shivratri

Goddess Uma was undergoing a huge tapasya to get Shiv as companion, when seven sages came to test her determination. They explained several faults in Shiv and praised Vishnu in many ways. But Goddess Parvathi remained unperturbed and simply said:

महादेव अवगुन भवन बिष्नु सकल गुन धाम।
जेहि कर मनु रम जाहि सन तेहि तेही सन काम॥
भावार्थ:-माना कि महादेवजी अवगुणों के भवन हैं और विष्णु समस्त सद्‍गुणों के धाम हैं, पर जिसका मन जिसमें रम गया, उसको तो उसी से काम है॥
(English Translation: The great God Shiv may be full of all faults and Vishnu may be repository of all virtues. One is, however, concerned with him alone who gladdens one’s heart.)

I wonder even after knowing all such excerpts from religious books, people try to justify how it is un-natural (and unwise) for a boy to be with a boy and how marriage between a man and women is the most ideal. While pre-requisite for an ideal companionship is only love, attachment and concern.
